Just because your data is secure does not mean it is authentic.  If you have a security event, do you know if you can still trust the data on your systems?  Part of your corporate security should include a way to identify and authenticate your data.  Digitial signature methods can provide identity and authenticity but they are generally unneccesary to deploy for internal use.
